Molecular Biology Major Surpasses 100 Students
Much like the cells they study, Cedarville University's molecular biology students are multiplying. For the first time, the major has surpassed 100 enrolled students who will be prepared with the clinical and research skills necessary to serve in a field of increasing importance. Kyra Becker from Cincinnati, Ohio, is one Cedarville alumna who worked as a clinical research intern at the University of Cincinnati last summer. "I've always dreamed of working in a lab," Becker said. "I wanted to do research, and this internship delivered on that. I got lots of practice collecting data, analyzing it and applying it to understand its uses." Becker was offered a full-time position and plans to work as a clinical research coordinator, researching methods for helping those with kidney failure, for the university after her graduation in May.

Professor Completes Final Prototype of Revolutionary New Trainer
Comprehensive strength training is now more accessible than ever with Dr. David Peterson's new total body trainer. Peterson, an assistant professor of kinesiology at Cedarville University, has collaborated with students across academic disciplines to make his exercise trainer available to a broader audience.

Second-Generation Au Sable Student Receives $3,000 Scholarship
Abby Gosselink, junior environmental science major from Otley, Iowa, took "field experience" to a whole new level, as she spent her summer studying wildlife, the ecosystem and wetland preservation at Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies in Mancelona, Michigan.

Students Benefit from Culturally Relevant Tour
For years, Cedarville University has been taking students on a weeklong tour of key civil rights locations as part of an extracurricular experience. But when the chartered bus departed campus on October 20, 2022, the tour was more than just a weeklong exercise, it was now part of a new, intensive nine-week, three-credit hour class.

With new virtual reality technology, Cedarville University students studying in the Industrial and Innovative Design program, can now sketch designs without ever laying pen to paper. The new innovative learning method will further prepare the design students for future careers.

Strengthening Her Peers Through the Power of Poetry
Whether it be writing, speaking or performing, Cedarville University junior Priya Hansen has a powerful way with words. Hansen is from Naples, Florida, and she is majoring in Christian education and youth ministries, with a concentration in worship. She's had the opportunity to serve in chapel in a unique way. Since her senior year of high school, Hansen has been writing spoken word poetry, a form of poetry that reads like a monologue. She uses rhyme, repetition, rhythm and imagery to create a word picture and set a tone.

Passionate for politics, Jonny Gartner, a senior political science major from Sunbury, Ohio, is making his voice heard in national news. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Gartner spoke on a Fox News panel related to the midterm election and asked a question at a town hall meeting with U.S. Senate candidates JD Vance and Tim Ryan.

To the surprise of the entire cast, a visiting guest from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival nominated two students to compete for a scholarship and awarded three certificates of merit to selected members of the show's cast.

Christmas Giving: Students Pack 1,000 Shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child
'Tis the season for gifts - but nothing can quite compare to opening a gift, maybe for the first time, from someone halfway across the world. Each November, the Operation Christmas Child student organization at Cedarville University seeks to pack 1,000 shoeboxes filled with gifts and necessities for children overseas. This ministry, based out of Samaritan's Purse, has reached over 198 million children in more than 170 countries and territories since 1993. Sarah Brubaker, a senior intercultural studies major from Colorado Springs, Colorado, is a co-president of the student organization.

Student Takes Multitasking to New Heights
Solving a Rubik's Cube in 16 seconds? Try solving the cubed puzzle while juggling. Cedarville University senior mechanical engineering major Thaddeus Krueger from Beavercreek, Ohio, stepped on the stage at Cedarville's annual talent show on September 23 and wowed his fellow students by completing the Rubik's Cube while juggling. Krueger has now won the Cedarville University talent show twice with this ability - in 2020 and 2022.

Cedarville Students Support Families, Protect Life at Pregnancy Resource Clinic
Where do the passions of students in nursing, business and biblical studies intersect? For seven Cedarville University students, that would be at the Pregnancy Resource Clinic (PRC) of Clark County in Springfield, Ohio. As a group, these students serve bimonthly as care coordinators.

Forensics Team Achieves Remarkable Success
In three tournaments since the beginning of the academic year, at Otterbein University, Cleveland State Community College and Muskingum University, Cedarville's forensics team claimed the top prize. At any given tournament, forensics team members have competed against up to 15 schools. Students are competing in events including Prose Interpretation, IPDA Debate and Impromptu speeches, and, through these methods, students tell powerful stories, present compelling arguments and use logic to uphold the truth.

Students Serve Hurricane Victims on Fall Break
Fall break for college students is typically a time of rest and relaxation amid a busy semester. But for one group of Cedarville University students, fall break meant exactly the opposite, as they traveled to Florida to serve locals impacted by Hurricane Ian. During Cedarville University's fall break, a group of 12 students drove more than 15 hours to Fort Myers, Florida, to clear debris from Hurricane Ian's devastating tear through the state.

Student Research From Summer Internship Is Nationally Recognized
A freshman-year speech class assignment came full circle this summer for Jenna Martin, now a senior molecular biology major from Hebron, Kentucky. For Martin's speech, she was asked to choose a potential career path to research and present. Martin spoke about developing miniature organs that assist in studying transplantation - organoids. Little did she know, three summers later she would be interning with Cincinnati Children's Hospital doing research on organ transplantation that would be published and nationally recognized.

NASA Scholarship Awarded to Cedarville University Student
When people hear the word "NASA," they probably think of space and rockets. But for Tara Keller, a junior Cedarville University molecular biology major, her interest in biology and health care landed her a research opportunity with the well-renowned organization. NASA is partnering with the Ohio Aerospace Institute to sponsor college students conducting research that would be applicable to NASA's field of study. Keller was chosen as one of the recipients.

Professional writing and information design senior Jenna Gulick (O'Fallon, Illinois), grew up listening to Focus on the Family broadcasts with Jim Daly. She loved their 'Adventures in Odyssey' radio show and learned many important lessons as a child about how to follow God.

Cedarville Student Filmmaker Wins Documentary Award
For Cedarville University sophomore Elizabeth Kollmar, her passion for making films always seemed like an unattainable career. But, after a class project led to an award ceremony, the dream no longer seems out of reach. Kollmar, a broadcasting, digital media and jouranlism major, took a video technology class in her first year at Cedarville. For her final project, she had to create a documentary or short film. Kollmar's award for Best Documentary was announced Friday, Nov. 4, at the International Conference on Missions (ICOM) in Columbus, Ohio. The contest is hosted by Good News Productions International (GNPI) and Redeem TV.
