Kaicheng Ye, a junior from Beavercreek, Ohio majoring in cyber operations and computer science at Cedarville University, however, can claim winning the 2022 National Security Agency's Codebreaker Challenge. For the past couple of years, Ye has made an enduring impact on the cybersecurity program at Cedarville. He is a fellow for Cyber Exercises, which is a leadership position that manages, researches, and organizes practices for future cyber competitions that Cedarville students compete in. The National Security Agency (NSA) holds the annual codebreaker challenge competition every year, allowing participants to use their technical skills in mission-centric scenarios-which is similar to the work of the NSA.

Led by senior mechanical engineering student Micah Zell, Cedarville's supermileage team won a technical innovation award at the 2021 Shell Eco-Marathon Americas Off-Track Awards for its vehicle's hydraulic brake system. Zell, from Hershey, Pennsylvania, began developing the brakes as a sophomore and implemented them this past year in accordance with Shell's new hydraulic brake requirement. In addition to being recognized for this technical innovation at the Shell awards, which Cedarville has competed at every year since its inception in America in 2007, the supermileage team also recently presented a second vehicle at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Supermileage competition. Josiah Hirschler, a senior civil engineering student from Chillicothe, Ohio, led this team with Brianna Ice, a senior mechanical engineering major from Dover, Ohio, who served as the overall team leader for both the Shell and SAE competitions.

Professor Eric Mishne, assistant professor of communication and coach of the Cedarville University speech and forensics team, used to encourage his students to think outside of the box as they prepared for competition. But COVID has changed things. "Now we have to think inside the box - literally, the box of the screen," said Mishne. "Everything a speaker does must fit inside the frame of the camera." Instead of traveling to university campuses across the country and speaking in front of audiences and judges, the speech team must record and submit speeches online.

An app-based fitness plan using old school card game strategy was the winner at The Pitch, a new business funding competition held Labor Day weekend at Cedarville University. First place winner was junior Alayna Ackley's "Encore," a simple, easy-to-use at-home workout game designed to motivate individuals and friends to exercise. Ackley received $1,000.

Cedarville University student Elizabeth McAlester was named to the Ohio Intercollegiate Jazz Band and will perform with the band at the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) conference on February 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
