Almost three years after they met on the Cedarville University speech team and after winning multiple speech competitions together, rising senior communication students Alex Boesch of Champaign, Illinois, and Olivia Ball of Columbus, Ohio, will tie the knot on July 23.

Since childhood, Josiah Kareck, a college student from Nashville, Tennessee, has wanted to travel to Ireland. Now, thanks to a new scholarship named after pioneers of study abroad at Cedarville University, Harmon and Audrey Bergen, he can.

A team that included Cedarville University pharmacy student Grace Hong earned high marks at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Hacking Medicine Grand Hack in April. Hong, a first-year Doctor of Pharmacy student from Powell, Ohio, and her team were tasked with finding new ways to use medical data to improve the health care experience. They addressed the question of home-based care for elderly, frail patients. Hong noted that these patients stay in hospitals for extended periods of time, even after recovering from procedures, because they can't safely go home and perform necessary daily routines. Long-term custodial care is not often covered by insurance. Hospitals, insurance companies and patients' families bear the cost of these extended hospital stays.

Graduation often brings with it much planning, as students work to finish the school year well and look toward the future. This year, three graduating nursing students from Cedarville University will spend their first 26 days after graduation serving in the West African nation of Togo alongside three rising seniors, associate professor of nursing Scott Long, Cedarville alumna and current Mayo Clinic employee Tonilynn Fleming and local missionaries.

Cedarville University's 16-member team represented Albania and won the Distinguished Delegation Award, the second-highest team award. Benjamin Mays from Middletown, Ohio, and Zachary Cavin from Warren, Ohio, won Outstanding Delegation in the U.N. Security Council, the highest individual award. Emma Blakemore from Lexington, Kentucky, and Luke Roche from Lititz, Pennsylvania, won Best Position paper for General Assembly 3.

The Cedarville University School of Pharmacy continues to exceed national norms. This year, 24 students or recent graduates in the school of pharmacy received residency opportunities. This gives Cedarville an 80% residency acceptance rate, while the national average is 77%. This matches trends over the past five years: during that period of time, Cedarville has had an average match rate of 80.2%, compared to a national average of 66.8%. Finally, one graduating student earned a fellowship with Johnson and Johnson.

More than five years after he survived a high school shooting, Logan Cole is preparing to graduate from Cedarville University. Cole, a senior information technology management student from West Liberty, Ohio, was a high school junior on January 20, 2017, when a classmate fired at him with a shotgun as he walked into a bathroom. Logan blacked out and, after waking up, managed to crawl to the other side of the bathroom.

Exercise provides physical and social benefits to people of all ages, whether that exercise takes the form of strength training or a relaxing neighborhood walk. Cedarville University student Bethany Laird is helping to promote exercise in the Springfield, Ohio, area as part of an internship with the Springfield Family YMCA and its Springfield Walks program.

It takes a big dream and work ethic to make a difference. This is what defines Rachel Nesmith, a Cedarville University junior social work major from Waldorf, Maryland, who has begun the process of remodeling a children's daycare room at a drug rehabilitation center in Springfield, Ohio. Nesmith and her team will complete the remodel on April 23. Nesmith was working on an assignment for a social work class when she took a tour of McKinley Hall, a non-profit organization in Springfield that serves people affected by substance abuse disorders. During the tour, she discovered a children's room that could use an update. Children play in the room while their parents receive treatment for substance abuse.

Grace Hong, a first-year Doctor of Pharmacy student at Cedarville University, will participate in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Hacking Medicine Grand Hack from April 15-17, 2022. While there, Hong, who is from Powell, Ohio, will work with a small team to propose and create a solution for a health care-related problem.

For many college students, holidays are an opportunity to travel home and spend time with loved ones. For some, it may be an opportunity to revisit the warm and inviting sights, sounds and places that have been with them since childhood.

Evan Weise may be different from other students because of his spinal muscular atrophy (SMARD), but his ability to experience college academics and life remain unaffected by his condition.

What do space travel, Elon Musk and entrepreneurship have in common? Cedarville senior Whitton Rice has the answer, which landed him a trip to Las Vegas to compete at a national economics conference. Rice, of Bloomington, Illinois, worked with Dr. Jeffrey Haymond, dean of the school of business and professor of economics at Cedarville University, to research different economic philosophies of entrepreneurship and the impact these ideas have on public policy.

While students from Cedarville University's NASA Student Launch team work hard on their rocket ahead of their competition later this month at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, they're also teaching rocket basics in the local community.

Cedarville University theatre's spring production of "The Beams are Creaking" will run from March 31-April 2 and April 7-10. The show's lead roles will be played by Josiah Kareck, senior from Antioch, Tennessee, as Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Sam Acosta, junior from Noblesville, Indiana, as Corporal Knobloch, along with a supporting cast who portray friends, family and co-conspirators.

Cedarville University mechanical engineering students have built mind-blowing supermileage cars, solar boats, an AI golf cart, remote control planes and a rocket. Now, a group of mechanical engineering students is working to bring to market a versatile five-in-one lower body trainer. Peterson's inspiration blossomed into a five-in-one lower body trainer that also allows users to do sissy squats, Nordic curls, hip thrusters and isometric sit-ups. As he began work on the trainer's fourth iteration, Peterson brought in eight mechanical engineering students: Daniel Cavallaro of Callaway, Maryland; Caleb Spreckels of Smithtown, New York; John Thomson of Greenwood, Missouri; Andrew Yerkey of Dublin, Ohio; Ava Merrifield of Shiloh, Illinois; David Pyo of Delaware, Ohio; Ben Schultz of Metamora, Michigan; and Josiah Zurick of Middlefield, Ohio.

The Cedarville University School of Pharmacy has partnered with 4CancerWellness (4CW) in Dayton, Ohio, to support cancer patients by evaluating potential new vitamins and supplements that could help with the effects of cancer and cancer treatments. The goal: "Helping cancer patients to feel better and do better," which is the 4CW mission statement. Students involved in the research include fourth-year pharmacy students Erin Ballentine of Walkersville, Maryland, and Renee Allison of Seven Fields, Pennsylvania, and third-year pharmacy students Alex Goodridge of Cedarville, Ohio; Andrew Barnhart of Warren, Ohio; Hayley Trout of Pickerington, Ohio; and Megan Stevens of Uniontown, Ohio.

Growing up, Cedarville University student Karley Amelemah witnessed how pharmacists in her home nation of Ghana improved her grandmother's quality of life. Their example spurred her to become a pharmacist too, a decision that led her from west Africa to southwest Ohio and back. Now, Amelemah is a fourth-year professional pharmacy student at Cedarville University. Her family moved to the United States, settling in Hartsdale, New York. This past January, she returned to Ghana for a monthly pharmacy rotation.

A 2021 Cedarville University graduate is helping French-speaking Haitian children bridge not just a language gap but a huge culture chasm in his efforts to teach them English. Since the fall, 2021 linguistics graduate Ian MacPhail-Fausey has been teaching Haitian children how to speak English in Springfield, Ohio schools, an area in dire need of help with their growing Haitian immigrant population.

The Cove academic enrichment center will launch its Accelerate Reading Program on February 18. Course content will be delivered online year-round and will be available to students from any college or high school. The course's content has been recorded entirely by students, giving the program a creative and colorful spin on online education. The students involved include Justin Schlabach from Apple Creek, Ohio, Sarah Colgan from Raleigh, North Carolina, Clint Brads from Xenia, Ohio, Gloria Shaw Ojeda from New Delhi, India, and Kasey Pot from Lebanon, Ohio.

For nearly 20 years, Cedarville University has helped local homeschool families integrate physical education into their children's academic schedules. The homeschool classes will be taught by juniors in Cedarville's Multi-Age Health and Physical Education (MAHPE) program, providing Cedarville students with real-world teaching experience before they get in-school student teaching experience. Helping out this year are Eli Schmidt of Pace, Florida; Rachel Mollohan of Etna, Ohio; Lucas Beckerink of Clymer, New York; and Garrett Lashuay of Oakwood, Illinois.
