Jackson Bishop, a senior computer science major from Findlay, Ohio, has been developing a high-tech tour app that will be used at Cedarville University to help users explore what their reality at Cedarville might look like. Bishop has collaborated with Chad Jackson, director of creative services, over the past year to create the custom virtual reality (VR) app for the university. The app, which operates through Oculus VR technology, will debut in June at the annual Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

After a couple summers working in the food industry, Cedarville University junior Rachel Higbee knew she wanted a career that could incorporate her love of art. This led her to found Arae Designs, where she has already sold over 1,000 custom-made clay earrings in a little over a year. Higbee, a professional writing and information design major from Brownsburg, Indiana, experimented with custom paintings and drawings in high school. However, even though she received a lot of orders, the time involved in fulfilling each request kept this from becoming a sustainable business while she was also a full-time student.

Four Cedarville University English majors want to help transfer students with the process of adjusting to campus life and hosted a game night Friday, April 16 from 7-9 p.m. The event was held in the Center for Biblical and Theological Studies, room 101. Kaylee Hunt, a senior from Wayne, New Jersey; Elly Watkins, a junior from Cedarville, Ohio; Katie Korwan, a junior from Westford, Massachusetts; and Ashley Gosman, a senior from Madison, Indiana came up with the event idea based on their own experiences. Hunt and Watkins transferred to Cedarville from other institutions, and Korwan and Gosman transferred to the English major from different departments.

Cedarville University senior Alyx Vissing had hoped that her internship at Trans World Radio (TWR) would lead to a full-time position with TWR. Vissing is a senior broadcasting, digital media and journalism major with an emphasis in radio from Willow Wood, Ohio. After graduation in May, Vissing will return to TWR as a full-time missionary serving as the Women of Hope audio/visual production coordinator. In this position, Vissing will plan and produce all audio and visual content for TWR-Women of Hope, which includes recording and voicing content, finding and training talent and editing and producing the finished product.

In a time in which travel is limited, Cedarville University students will be serving the nations who have come to the States this summer. From May 2-9, Dr. Thad Franz, vice chair of experiential programs at Cedarville, and N.D. Nguyen, a first-year graduate student in pharmacy, will lead a team of students to serve the refugee community in Clarkston, Georgia.

A new creative collaboration opportunity has Cedarville University students joining forces to produce multimedia art projects. "The Duos Project: A Collaborative Experience" connects visual artists with writers for the purpose of creating a final project incorporating both writing and images. English majors Rachel Rathbun, a sophomore from Hubbardston, Massachusetts, and Grace Kohler, a junior from Elyria, Ohio, have been overseeing the project since its inception in January. Rathbun came up with the idea from observing the artwork on display at a coffee shop in her hometown.

The COVID-19 pandemic left students without the classes, opportunities and trips they'd been excitedly anticipating from Cedarville University's D.C. semester program. But nearly a year after shifting to remote classes at the end of the 2020 spring semester, deferring ceremonies and canceling study abroad programs, some opportunities are being reinstated, ushering students back into the classroom and the airport.

When sophomore Ellen Davis, an early education and special education double major from Lafayette, Indiana, was asked about her passions and hopes for the school of education, her childhood alongside a younger brother with Down syndrome inspired an advocacy event to encourage and exhort her peers. On Monday, March 22, Cedarville University's Student Education Association (SEA) hosted a disabilities forum to address how individuals can care for those with special needs. On Friday, April 2, Cedarville University hosted a Red Cross blood drive with hopes to yield new plasma donors in the fight against COVID-19. This spring's blood drive took place in the Stevens Student Center (SSC) event rooms 240 & 241, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In a normal year, junior primary education majors serve in local school districts, working with a mentor teacher to tutor first through third-grade students. Now, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, teacher candidates and teachers are forced to think outside the classroom to connect with students remotely.

Most married couples can recall stories of stress from the wedding-planning process, especially those who planned their big days while in college. But for the many recently engaged couples at Cedarville University, COVID has eclipsed the challenges of ongoing academic commitments.

James Barber, a senior accounting major and member of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) at Cedarville University, has been recognized as a Cadet of the Year by the Central State University ROTC program. Out of nearly 20,000 cadets nationwide, Barber is one of 273 cadets to be honored with the award. Recipients were selected from regional ROTC programs after their grades, academic standing and leadership potential were assessed, and they attended a virtual leadership conference where they received training from general officers.

Senior social work students from Cedarville University are working to create a connection between the university and surrounding communities. Through a class project, in conjunction with Cedarville United Presbyterian Church, the students are collecting essential items for the church's Total Essentials Pantry. The project, from March 15-29, is part of the Social Work Practice with Community and Organizations class, a required class taught by Prof. Sandi Wagner.

Inspired by this love for high-tech play, a group of Cedarville University students just made their own addition to the gaming legacy. Over the last weekend in January, 17 Cedarville students worked together to complete the Global Game Jam annual game-creation challenge. The challenge tasks students with creating an original high-tech video game in 48 hours, and Cedarville's team collaborated to make five games within the allotted time.

Cedarville University students who have volunteered at the Riding Centre, a nonprofit equestrian organization for special needs children and adults in Yellow Springs, Ohio, have been forced to rein in their involvement this year due to COVID-19. But this spring offers the hope of fresh opportunities to get back in the saddle and serve. Cedarville students were able to serve for about a month during the 2020 fall semester, from August to September, including Sarah Schweppe, a junior international studies major from Easton, Maryland.

Cedarville University communication students presented research at the National Communication Association (NCA) including Jesse Musgrave, a junior strategic communication major from Mt. Blanchard, Ohio.

The Cedarville theatre department will perform "Four One Act Plays," written by Anton Chekhov. "Four One Act Plays" will open Thursday, Feb. 4 and close Sunday, Feb. 14. Zach Krauss of Temple, Texas, a second-year student pharmacist and research assistant, is dramaturg for the production.
