Frankfort Native Turns Stylish Creations Into Instagram Business Success

In an era marked by social distancing and customer caution toward shopping in brick and mortar stores, Cedarville juniors Keziah Stockdale and Jessie Gerakinis took to Instagram to turn their passion for handmade style into a successful online business. Awe & Co. launched in May 2019 as an online business specializing in polymer clay jewelry, "patch pants" and a handful of other fashion staples ranging from canvas dresses to beaded necklaces. Stockdale, the seamstress, and Gerakinis, the jeweler, work together to create quality products with a unique flair.

Hustonville Native Starts Gospel Choir Called "All the People"

Matthew Pettus, junior at Cedarville University, saw the need to grow the music diversity at Cedarville University and has helped start a gospel choir called "All the People." Pettus was recruited to serve as co-director and hopes to serve and challenge Cedarville students by teaching them new styles of musical worship not common on campus.

Portage Native Participates in Letter-Writing Campaign to Connect with Inmates During COVID

Before the outbreak of COVID-19, a group of Cedarville University students visited the Greene County Jail on Sunday mornings to spend time talking with inmates and building relationships with them. Due to the health precautions this year, inmates are unable to talk with visitors face-to-face; they can only talk behind glass and over a phone. Cedarville students typically begin their jail ministry in October, and with COVID-19, they are planning to move to a letter-writing campaign in hopes of encouraging the inmates.

Akron Student Starts Gospel Choir called "All the People"

Anya Burns, junior at Cedarville University, saw the need to grow the music diversity at Cedarville University and has helped start a gospel choir called "All the People." After thinking and praying about founding a gospel choir, Pettus was recruited to serve alongside as co-director, and "All the People" was born.

Woodard to Solve COVID Problems at MIT Grand Hack

Abby Woodard, a third-year professional pharmacy student from Camden, Ohio, was accepted to participate in the MIT Grand Hack on October 2-4. At the Grand Hack, 733 students from around the globe will join together virtually to solve problems in health care. Woodard will join a team of engineers, clinicians, designers, developers and business professionals working to solve problems related to access to health care during COVID-19. By the end of the weekend, they will pitch their suggestions to investors.

International Worship Event to be Held Virtually

Cedarville University will be among nine schools from around the globe to participate in a virtual international worship event on October 22. This event, hosted by Next Level Worship, will take place from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and will include schools and universities from Mexico, Zambia, Germany and the United States. Next Level Worship, a nonprofit in Lacey's Spring, Alabama, has organized four similar live interactive praise gatherings in the past and is greatly anticipating this year's event. Because of the virtual format, Cedarville students will meet with college students all over the globe who share a common faith while representing many cultures, languages and locales.

Ackley Wins $1000 in Virtual Business Funding Competition

An app-based fitness plan using old school card game strategy was the winner at The Pitch, a new business funding competition held Labor Day weekend at Cedarville University. First place winner was junior Alayna Ackley's "Encore," a simple, easy-to-use at-home workout game designed to motivate individuals and friends to exercise. Ackley received $1,000.

Ayers Gets 100,000 Streams on Spotify

Noah Ayers, a Cedarville University junior worship major, released his song "Open Arms" on May 15, and it has already reached 100,000 streams on Spotify worldwide. For the last four months, Ayers has had approximately 15,000-20,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Multiple songs of Ayers have reached 3,000 streams individually. Ayers' song "Jesus Our Savior" is played on Cedarville's campus' radio station, Resound Radio. He performed "Jesus Our Savior" during Cedarville's 2019 Thanksgiving worship chapel and performed his Christmas song "Can You Hear" at his local church, Grace Baptist Church in Cedarville, Ohio. He also tours around the greater Cedarville area with his band doing worship nights and concerts.

Anderton Making an Impact in Cancer Research

Her internship with the Hormel Institute at the University of Minnesota has been virtual, but Cedarville University senior Leah Anderton is making a real impact as co-author of a scholarly paper on cutting-edge cancer research. Anderton began her internship this summer at the Hormel Institute, which is only about an hour from her home in Rochester, Minnesota. Because of COVID-19 protocols, the internship was cancelled, however, Anderton had the opportunity to volunteer remotely with a genomics researcher from the Institute and she will continue this role this fall.

Etchi to help Lead Ohio Pharmacy Advocacy Symposium

Nkafu Etchi, a second-year professional pharmacy student from Columbus, Ohio, will participate on a student panel as part of the annual Ohio Pharmacy Advocacy Symposium to be held virtually on September 25. This year's theme is "COVID and the Pharmacist" and will include discussions about pharmacists serving more and more in primary care provider roles in agreements with doctors' offices, adopting best practices in managing COVID-19 patients, managing critical drug shortages and adapting to changes in state and federal law.

Cedarville University Celebrates Graduates

Cedarville University celebrated graduates during the Class of 2020 Senior Celebration held online May 2, 2020. This was the university's largest graduating class in its 133-year history, with 826 seniors and graduate students earning bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. This celebration will not replace commencement, which will be held homecoming weekend on October 2-3, with full regalia.
