Senior social work students from Cedarville University are working to create a connection between the university and surrounding communities. Through a class project, in conjunction with Cedarville United Presbyterian Church, the students are collecting essential items for the church's Total Essentials Pantry. The project, from March 15-29, is part of the Social Work Practice with Community and Organizations class, a required class taught by Prof. Sandi Wagner.

Even though they haven't been able to play in Cedarville University's chapel because of the coronavirus pandemic, the university jazz band, true to its musical roots, has decided to improvise. With improving data on the pandemic, the jazz band can now perform in Jeremiah Chapel, which it will do on Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. The concert is open to the public and free of charge. Protocols for social distancing and masking are still in place due to COVID-19 guidelines.

From the classics, like Pac Man and Donkey Kong, to current favorites like Minecraft and Animal Crossing, video games have been capturing the attention of the world for decades. Inspired by this love for high-tech play, a group of Cedarville University students just made their own addition to the gaming legacy. Over the last weekend in January, 17 Cedarville students worked together to complete the Global Game Jam annual game-creation challenge. The challenge tasks students with creating an original high-tech video game in 48 hours, and Cedarville's team collaborated to make five games within the allotted time.

Cedarville University students who have volunteered at the Riding Centre, a nonprofit equestrian organization for special needs children and adults in Yellow Springs, Ohio, have been forced to rein in their involvement this year due to COVID-19. But this spring offers the hope of fresh opportunities to get back in the saddle and serve. Cedarville students were able to serve for about a month during the 2020 fall semester, from August to September, including Sarah Schweppe, a junior international studies major from Easton, Maryland.

The Cedarville theatre department will perform "Four One Act Plays," written by Anton Chekhov. "Four One Act Plays" will open Thursday, Feb. 4 and close Sunday, Feb. 14. Zach Krauss of Temple, Texas, a second-year student pharmacist and research assistant, is dramaturg for the production.

Stephanie Wu, a fourth-year professional pharmacy student from Peoria, Illinois, is the first Cedarville University student from the school of pharmacy to be accepted into an industry fellowship program. Wu will graduate from Cedarville this May and then will start her fellowship with Sanofi Genzyme, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the country. She will serve on their immunology and medical science liaison team starting July 1.

The award provides tuition relief for students enrolled in either the Beyond Startup Accelerator or entrepreneurship classes at the university.

The Cedarville University chapter of Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI) has been awarded a $500 grant to provide free influenza vaccines, including Corri Adams of Akron, Ohio, a second-year professional pharmacy student and president-elect of Cedarville's CPFI chapter. The $500 Hands and Feet Grant will provide 50 doses of influenza vaccine to the Health Partners Free Clinic in Troy, Ohio. Cedarville students will administer the vaccine free of charge.

A mother-daughter duo in southwest Ohio are earning their bachelor's degrees side by side. Christina Penrose of Springfield, Ohio, will be graduating in November from Cedarville University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. Her daughter, Hayley Penrose, will earn her Bachelor of Science in social work degree in May.

When Lorin Barnes, a senior at Cedarville University from Lewisburg, Ohio, began interviewing sports fans for her qualitative research class, she was intrigued by the dedication they expressed for the hometown teams they cheered for in their childhoods. Her subsequent research earned the "Top Undergraduate Poster" award at the 2020 Ohio Communication Association (OCA) conference.
